THE INSPIRATION BEHIND OUR PRODUCTS:

When we released our 14th seasonal limited edition, we decided it was about time to get back to our roots. Field Notes in general, and the National Crop Edition specifically, owe their existence to a tradition of promotional memo books distributed to American farmers over the last hundred years by seed, tractor, and other agricultural companies.

Field Notes co-founder Aaron Draplin has been collecting these for years, “rescuing them” from obscurity. He talks about Field Notes’ ancestry in this film, From Seed, and we’re happy to present an ever-growing collection of our “family tree” for your perusal.

With a name like NOHRTH, how could we NOT rep Fjällräven, a brand with an amazing story set in the mountains of Northern Sweden? More importantly, Fjällräven is the most ethically sound, sustainable, innovative, premium outdoor brand in the world. 100% PFC Free, Wool-Redefined, recyclable polyester, traceable down… and it all began when Åke Nordin, an avid young hiker, decided the backpacks at the time (the 1950s) were unsatisfactory and took matters into his own hands. At 14, Åke built his first framed backpack in his basement with his mother’s sewing machine. Using strong cotton fabric for the pack, he attached a wooden frame using leather straps and used calfskin for the support straps. This evenly distributed weight across his back. It was more comfortable. It also meant he could carry more weight with ease.

FjallravenKidrespS1img1On a trip up North, Åke’s invention caught the attention of the indigenous Sami people who spent weeks at a time high up in the mountains. They asked Åke to build them a backpack and after that a tent. Fjällräven had found its beginning. 50 years later, the brand has expanded to every corner in the world.

Fjällräven means Arctic Fox in Swedish, honoring the small and highly adaptable predator that lives in the Swedish mountains under the harshest conditions. Ever the clever brand, Fjällräven continues to find smart, innovative solutions to make every adventure an unforgettable one.

HANWAG

HanWagBlack_WhiteIn 2011, our agency turned two. That same year, Hanwag celebrated its 90th jubilee! That’s nearly a century of Alpine Experience making double-stitched boots. Hans Wagner opened his first workshop in the German town of Vierkirchen (which is still the home of Hanwag) in 1921. Since the first sale of one of Hans’ boots, through the 1936 Winter Olympics that featured his first ski boots, to the 1992 ‘Super Fly GTX,’ the world’s first (and considered by many, only) paragliding boot, and the 2006 opening of its state-of-the-art manufacturing and service complex is build in Vierkirchen, Hanwag has maintained an unparalleled tradition of craftsmanship.

Hanwag provides not only a tremendous product, but much to admire in its ethos. At NOHRTH, we aspire to that standard. Our youth and connection to the millennial consumer is complemented by over a decade of experience and proven track record of performance. In other words, like Hanwag, we’re a proven entity with our best years are ahead of us.
